Hi, Thought I would share this with you guys cos you may have something to say to help out. A friend where I have Maisie has had to move her horse to another field on the farm because she is very hard to catch and the horses she is with are out 24/7. So they offered her a field at night time where she is next to a field with other horses but not with them in the field. The only thing is that the field is about 300yds from the farm down the road, and since putting her out this evening my friend has been worrying that her horse is going to be stolen. She isnt freezemarked yet-but is going to do this soon and there is no padlock on the gate-not that that would stop horse theives! She has been talking to me saying that she is actually considering putting her horsie back in the other field because that is actually on the farm, and she doesnt want to leave her horse out there. I thought you guys might be able to give me some advice to give her!! lotte x

sorry to hear that she isnt happy turning her out away from the farm. if she isnt happy then i would put the horse back in with the others and work on the catching problem. could she leave a headcollar or one of the fieldsafe ones on her horse so that she can easily clip a leadrope on? and possibly do some ground work with her horse in an enclosed area to try and gain the horses trust more when being caught? ;D
hope this helps,
hannah xxx

I don't know, if it is the habbit to chip horses in the U.K. Overhere, it isn't (yet), but it will be by 2008. I know on some fields of the farmer, where Daisy is stabled to, they have big signs saying "there is no use stealing these horses, because they are chipped" (although most aren't). I don't know, if this is realy affective, but - so far - no horse has been stoolen there yet.

hey guys, thanks. she seems happier today and has made a rug badge out of a hi viz material saying that her horsie is microchipped and freezemarked and can be traced by the police and says she is guna get her freezemarked within the month.
also i went down to check on her horse tonight and she had gone right down the bottom of the field out of sight and was happily grazing. I spoke to my mate about working with her on her catching probs but she says she has tried everything and nothing seems to change; as soon as her horse is with other horses she just dont wanna no her mum!
Hopefully it will only be for a short while until the fields change around . so thanks for your words of wisdom!!
