Hi Guys, I am planning on taking maisie to the early summer show of the WPCS in my region. ;DI am entering her in a in hand class-sec d championship for 4 yr olds and over. this was what i was recommended by the show organiser. However, I have NEVER been to a large show in my LIFE! I thought it would be better to just do in hand as for us it will be fun, but I still dont know what to expect. There are no other shows in my area b4 this to go and watch and I was wondering if you could share any of your experiences at welsh shows so I have an idea of what to expect. I was also told that i could show her in a lovely white halter and then the lady at my yard told me that only stallions wear them-so confused! anything would be useful-especially what i will have to do on arrival! thanks lotte and maisie moo x

mares and geldings can wear the white halters, stallions have to be bitted erm, havent really done proper welsh inhand stuff before, havent been to a breed show for a few years, just treat it like a normal show, some of the breed shows arent as big as you expect ;D just make sure shes beautiful before you go into the ring (not that she needs much to make her beautiful ), get her to walk and trot out nicely and stand up for the judge and youll be well away ;D hannah xxx

indeed... like hannah says... white halters (preferably rope or webbing) are for mares, youngsters and/or geldings. But there are no strict rules... If a mare is hard to control, you can show her in a bridle with a rubber bit. Tale and mane should look as natural as possible, but a small plait just behind the ears is allowed. In fact, I would recommend it, because it accentuates the neck line and head. When you travel with the horse it's best to have some kind of blanket on, so that the hairs stay flat during transit. Normaly when your categorie is on, you walk in the ring and then place your horse at the appointed place. You will then be asked by the steward to walk and trot your horse individualy. At least, that's how it works in Belgium. Any more questions, feel free to ask or pm me. Regards, Stefan.

hehe we tried to put a small plait behind my geldings ear once and he hated it ;D ended up taking it out cause he was being an idiot (as usual!). oh and when you trot her up, keep her at a speed you can keep up with, i wound me boy up a bit too much at our last show and he went really fast and i ended up letting go luckily it was indoors and the photographer caught him! ;D hannah xxx

Daisy has always a small plait... she has her 'talisman (a sterling welsh dragon) plaited in it.
And indeed... the speed you trot her up is important.... Some people think that you have to trot as fast as possible... but some cobs show better at a somewhat lower speed... It is best that you try at home to find out at which speed your cob's trot is the most impressive.... And ... it's always better to show a slower trot then trying to go too fast and showing a 'canter' instead of a trot

aww that sounds nice hannah xxx I'll try to make you a close up photo this week-end. As promissed... herewith some pics of Daisy's plait and talisman... (I've changed a bit to the brightness and contrast of the detail photo, to make it a bit sharper... resulting in Daisy color being a bit different)

lol we dont do much inhand and we are too soft, if he doesnt like it we give in and let him have his own way if we made him get on with it he'd probably be fine, we like the quiet life though ;D hannah xxx
