hi, he is so lovely, i just love welshies! I was wondeirng if you might be able to help me. I have a sec d mare (below). she came to me with some back prblems and was very tense from a badly fitting saddle. i haven't ridden her for a while because she has been having sessions with the osteopath and massage. However, i have been told that she will nearly be ready for ridden work. however, i am not a very confident rider and although she is really safe and just a lovely horse, because of her back problems she moves quickly away when mounting and then rushes and runs away from the bit, i have no brakes!! I was wondering if you had any tips on how I can convince her that her back is better and that she doesn't need to do that. Unfortunately I can only ride on the road so don't have anywhere to ride her 100% safe. any ideas? any ideas would be helpful.. thanks lotte

Lillie-All sounds abit complicated to a simply happyhacker like me ;D but he looks fabulous ;D Lotte-Don't know if this would help you but Lady used to shake all over and them buck when you got on her ,so all I did was tack her up(which was a job in its self) get someone to hold her loosely(she would buck if you held her tight or had a jointed bit in!)get on her,pat her then get off. Then gradually it got longer and longer and now she's hacking out fine.Just do everything at your/own pace & don't feel pressed to do anything your not sure about.I didn't do anything but walk ride her and alittle inhand for well over a year

lotte, i agree with september about building up the time your on the horse, when linx came back from his back injury we did that although it wasnt a problem getting on it was slowly building his back muscle again

ok, thanks guys, i have been walking her out in hand a lot and have just started to tack her up and walk her out, so will try you suggestions. just wanna ride her so much tho. at the mo she is a rubber pelham and i really feel that it is too much bit for her even tho she is quite strong. she has a sensitive mouth so has to have a rubber bit, but i don't wanna put a happy mouth or something like that and for it not to be enuf! I just wanna do the right thing for her. i love her soo much!
