Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around for a while, everything has been a bit hectic with being ill, exams etc. Sadly, I am back with some bad news. We had to have Saracen put to sleep at lunchtime today following complications after having emergency colic surgery on Saturday. He was my baby, we have had him since he was 3 years old, so its nearly 13 years that we have had him. I was 6 when we got him so I grew up with him and he has always been there for me. The last couple of years have been a fantastic time for us, we have had a sucessful time at shows and we had really improved from how we were when I first started riding him. He was very loved by my family, he was another child to us, Mum backed him herself and saw him change from an ugly duckling to a lovely pony who was full of energy and life. Life is already strange without him as he was such a big part of our lives, and I don't think that the shock of losing him has really kicked in yet as it has been very sudden. The great thing is he went out on a high note, he had won his classes at the last couple of shows we did, and we got to our area breed show, which is something I had always wanted to do with him. Caeifor Black Prince 7/5/93-2/2/09 sleep well my baby... when we first got him (excuse the pic of a pic) doing what he liked best... posing... and most recently... sorry for pic overload guys, got a bit carried away... Hannah xxx

Sorry about your loss.
I know how you must be feeling now. I was about your age, when I had to put to sleep my first pony.
Take care.

He was a beautiful boy. He had a grand life with you and you did your best for him until his very last moments. Go in peace, Saracen. Do you know this poem? "Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, he goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. His ears prick. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. Your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes, gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... " Hope this helps a bit

Hi guys, Thank you for all your kind comments. I would have replied sooner but I have been busy one way and another so have been lurking in the background rather than logging on. Although it has got easier, I still find myself expecting to see him standing there waiting in the stable or in the field, or thinking I have heard him calling across the yard. However, knowing Saracen, he would not want us to dwell on what could have been, and he would want us to move on. So we have recently got our new boy, a 15.2hh 9 year old piebald Irish Cob gelding called Miley. Hopefully you won't all disown me for defecting! lol I would have quite happily have had another welsh cob, but as I will hopefully be off to university in september mum wanted something slightly saner It does also mean that I can't compare the two, which I think I would have done if we had got another welshie. Saracen was very much a once in a lifetime horse in some ways especially in regard to his temperament and nature, and I doubt that we could have found one the same. Its different, but its nice to have another to work with and get to know, Miley is very sweet natured and tries his hardest to please. Anyway, I hope you are all well! Sorry for the essay style post (again!) I still have the innate ability to ramble! Hannah xxx p.s. that poem was lovely traversmum, thank you for sharing it with us. although I have vaguely heard of it before, I had never read it. Thanks once again x
