Hi,
I was planning on giving my mare a dose of Droncit 9% to prevent that she gets tapeworms (she already got something against other worms a few weeks ago).
But, now I read in the instructions about pregnant and lactating mares : "Test on lab-animals (rats, rabbits,...) didn't show any side-effects. The safety of the medicin after giving it to pregnant or lactating mares has not been tested. The product should only be given to pregnant or lactating mares after a risks/benefits analysis by the vet".
The vet gave it to me as a prevention, but my mare has clearly no tapeworms, so I am in doubt whether I should give it to her or not.
I have had horses in the past, but breeding is fairly new to me and I don't want to take any risks. What do you all do on prevention (worms, vaccinations, etc.) with your pregnant mares ?
Thanks in advance for reading this and for your replies.
Regards, Stefan.

Thanks for the reply Gypsy.
This Droncit9% is based on praziquantel and Equimax is based on ivermectine (against other worms) and praziquantel (against tapeworms). So if Equimax is safe, then this-one should be safe as well (I guess),
She got Noromectin (based on ivermectine) on 20-sept-2006. So in combination with this one she should be ok. Next time though I will use Equimax, 'cause it is all in one. Makes is much easier.
Kind regards, Stefan.
