Hi there, Ashley here 33 years old and just purchased a welsh D mare last week , She has a fantastic temprement and i am looking forward to backing her in may, She is blaxk with a white star and from nebo black magic bloodlines, can anyone tell me how old D's are when they stop growing ? as she currently stands at 13.2 Hh and i have been told she should reach 15hh. In my experience of youngsters i hove found they dont really grow much more after the age of 3 however i have heard it can vary depending on breed is this true? thanx P.s great to meet so many people with the same breed and congratulations on a fab site.

sorry to shoot off-topic...will try to be quick!! some cobs CAN take their time maturing to their full height!! i've found that some of our bigger ones tend to grow anywhere up to 5yo (where my beloved "foxy" tipped a delicate -ahem- 16hh....we had to sell him to someone tall enough to groom him.... ) if she's 3-ish, as i assume from you saying you'll back her this year, then i wouldn't think she'll make 15 hands....she COULD surprise you, and i am no world expert, but our mares who were a similar size at 3 have finished off at 14.1 and 14.2; the "strapping lad" i just referred to was already 15 hands at 3yo.; but like i say, that's only MY experience with our cobs...a lot could depend on the size of the parents and which one she takes after. our senior stallion, Rocket, is 15.2, and our foundation mare, Byefields Easter (by LLanarth Brummell) was 14.2, and their daughter, Pegswood Myfanwy stands dot on 14.2. not really been much help, have i...or have i? is there a smiley that shows "slightly confused" ?! as a ROUGH guide based solely on my experience of our own mob, she could put on another hand or so if she keeps growing til she's five, but i'm not sure she'd make 15 hands. anyone else got a rough guide from experience? but, cobs rock no matter WHAT size they are!

Hi - some of you will know me from other sites - not had a Sec D for very long - about a month - but I love her to bits! She is Penddolfawr Sali Mai (Degla Flying Express X Penddolfawr Sioned Mai) - a 15hh bright bay mare with a star & snip and a fabulously sensible temperment (which I confess I didn't thing was possible in a Sec D! LOL!). She lives here on my stud in East Lincs with Dartmoors, Shetlands and Fells. i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/DPL2005/Pandora/IMAG0007.jpgi22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/DPL2005/IMAG0005.jpgPegswoodcobs - Many many years ago (!!!!) I used to live just round the corner from there - in Widdrington, when all it was was a shop, railway station and a small housing estate! I went to infant school there so that tells you how long ago it was! Whats it like there now?

Hi there all you Welsh Cob fans, I have just completed my web site www.navestockstud.moonfruit.com which is dedicated to my foundation staliion Nebo Prince whom I sadly lost in early December last, I am looking for nice photos to post on to it of any progeny (no matter how diluted) to keep his memory alive, performance or show pictures will be preferred but any nice pictures will certainly be considered. If you like my site please post me a message on it and any other thoughts or memories you may have of my sadly missed horse Thanks Jane Speight Navestock Stud

Hi my name is Mona, I am 40 years old. I own a Section C (Peny-Ghent Gandalph) gelding and a Section D (Grenwood Calliburn) gelding, both are 5 Years old. I am in Australia, in the state of Victoria. My sister bred my D Gelding who is by a stallion exported from the UK called Pennybank Domain who is by Minyffordd Principality. This is Calliburn au.geocities.com/ozwelshcobs/grenwoodCalliburn.jpg I have shown him 6 times for 1st Cob Gelding under 3 years and under : 2000 Youngstock Show 2nd Cob Gelding under 3 years : 2000 NSW All Welsh Show Reserve champion Senior Cob Gelding : 2004 NSW All Welsh Show Champion Senior Cog Gelding : 2005 NSW All Welsh Show Australian Welsh Nationals 2006 : 2nd Welsh D Senior Gelding (3rd overall Cob C or D Gelding) NEB Welsh Autumn Show 2006 : Reserve Champion Senior Cob Gelding. All these shows are under UK Judges. He is still very green to ride as he hasnt been ridden much. Unfortunately I had to sell him for financial reasons and the girl who bought him took him to a bad trainer who wrecked him, I ended up buying him back and he was very scarey to ride but 12 months later he is getting back to being his original quiet self. She did a real job on him thats for sure. This is Alf au.geocities.com/ozwelshcobs/Alf0104.jpgAlf is my little buddy, he isnt very Cobby, his dad is a section A stallion Twyford Minton (imp) and his dam has a lot of section A breeding as well but I love him to death anyway. He is a real character. I have shown him only twice and he got a 5th and a 3rd in his led and a 4th in his ridden. He is great to ride and lots of fun. Jumps like nothing else I do Parelli with them both and I am doing level 2 with both of them. Well thats me.

Hi, my name is christine polson and I am the very proud new owner of a welsh section D black mare called Navestock Black Lady. Lady is 13 and my first horse, she is a real sweetheart and is being really kind and patient. I would love to hear from anyone who previously knew Lady, I have been told that she bred a foal, any info would be great. By the way we live in the shetland isles.

My name is Sarah. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. I am 17 years old. I own a welsh section D mare called Finchale Lady Megan, Megan for short. She is 14.2hh and liver chestnut. She is by Craignant Flyer and out of Ross Derwena by Derwen Dewin. She was bred in wales and born in Durham, she spent her early years in a couple of studs and then was sold to my auntie's riding school where i was then given her a couple of years later. She is my first horse and i show her and hunter trial her. She is a very typical welsh with lots of attitude and she shows off all the time. I also have an american spaniel, who is nine, called Bonnie and a Westie, who is 1, called Holly. I have two rescue cats called Meg and Ellie and have had hamsters and guinea pigs in the past too. I am a real animal lover. I also love to read, sing and play the piano.

Hi. I'm Sarah and I live on Anglesey in North Wales. I'm 18 yrs old and have been riding (officially!) since I was 5. (Actually I started a lot younger than that as my aunt used to work at the local stables... but I didn't start having lessons til I was 5)
I own two welsh cobs. Pantanamlwg Wendy who is a 14hh, 19 year old mare by Cyttir Telynor, and her daughter Siglan Gwennol Mai by Trevallion Demetrius, who is also about 14hh and is 5yrs next month. I bought Wendy 5 years ago already in foal. When i started looking for my first pony the criteria was a 7yr old, 15hh sensible gelding....how I ended up with a 14 year old,14hh pregnant welsh cob mare is beyond me!

Hi my name is Rhian I own 3 welsh D cobs, 2 mares, Heol Draw Misty Pearl by Derwen Adventure Boy, Harddwch Ddu - my riding cob who is currently for sale on www.horsequest.co.uk under native breeds welsh section D in the Adults section and I also own a yearling colt by Cathedine Flying Express, who will also be up for sale sometime next year. I bred two of the horses out of my mare above all lovely quality cobs, the colt is slightly immature at the moment he was a late foal born beginning of July last year but he will turn out a cracker in the future and make 14.3 to 15hh. If anyone is looking for a lovely riding mare with the ability to breed show quality stock , please view my advert as indicated above, She is a black mare with no white on her face but very pretty with a beautiful temperament and rides very well in every way. I have never had time to show any of my horses as I own my own business and enjoy drinking on the weekends, but they are lovely cobs, all my horses are bred with old type bloodlines, Nebo, Mabnesscliff Survivor, Hewid, Mathrafal. Llanarth Meredith Ap Braint, Cyttir Telynor.

Hi my name is Michelle and I live in East Yorkshire. I bought my first ever horse, which happened to be a Welsh D on Christmas Eve 2005 I am 40ish. My girl's registered name is Brohedd Sali aka Minnie. She is 10 years old, 15.2 hh, chestnut with a white blaze. she is out of the Twyford Druid, Nebo More Magic, Nebo Black Magic blood lines. Before I purchased Min she was used to hack around a housing estate - which she liked!!!!. Now we are re-schooling which she objects a little to. she is fantastic looking, 110% bombproof and a lovely kind nature - and I love her to death.
I intend showing her this summer and to begin jumping her next year when I have learnt how to do it properly - lol!!! any information on her early days or her parentage would be extremely appreciated
