recently we have had a strangles scare. just got back from the farm and the infected horse has been moved off the yard. but as you no strangles can live in most things. so the whole yard has had the attack of the jays fluid!!! and all bedding has been destroyed. and hopefully it hasn't infected any of the other horses. but i still have a slight worry as minty was in the next stable to the infected horse! arrrr stress! i will keep you all updated on the issue, but fingers crossed it will all be ok. talk soon hannah

i had to let it go as my old mare on saturday became very ill, i went to take her rug off about 11 clock and her leg was swallon and it took me 20 mins (normal 2 mins) to get her from her field to her stable. i got the vet out and she gave her 3 injections, she had secondry infection though mud fever (but theres no mud), and a touch of salulighter. so i phoned them and told them i could come about a day or so later and she say she would have to find some one soon, so i said ok and let it go so iam still looking for a job. see ya soon dawny

hey guys, it looks like the strangles is back. i went up the farm earlier to get minty in for the night. i got him into the stable and whilst sat on the the floor talkin to him as we do most nights i noticed a yellowy coloured lump under his chin. i stood up to take a closer look and he has a big lump under his chin and it has pus comin out of it. i panicked and called for my mum, she seems to think that it could be strangles. thinkin back i did notice a slight nasal discharge the other day but put it down to the change in the weather or summin. what i dont understand is he looks really healthy and he is really alert. it just doesnt make sence. as if i havent ad enough to deal with the past couple of days, i got this on my mind aswell. i will keep you all updated on his condition and if it is definatly strangles. speak soon hannah x

hey guys, as promised i sayed i would keep you updated. minty isnt showing any other signs of strangles apart from this lump. so i dont think he has strangles. i would no about it by now if he did. i have a new theory. i allways see him with his head in the bushes so i am now thinkin that he has managed to get a thorn stuck in there and thats why theres all the pus. (like what dawny said.) i am getting the vet out tomorow to take a look at him as i cant see a thorn but there definattly feels like there is something in there. horses eh, theres allways something goin on with them aint there. speak soon, hannah xx

the lump is well solid and i cant move it at all, but he isnt showing any other signs, he is still his normal happy self. i dont think its strangles anymore. he had a similar lump a few weeks back from a thistle but not as bad. im sure he will be fine. im treatin it like an infected wound until i see the vet tomorow. i will let you no what he says. speak soon hannah xx

as promised i would let you no how minty is. it is not strangles. the vet came out. minty has got a thorn stuck in his skin and it got infected. he got the thorn out and told me just to bathe it with warm salt water to draw the infection out and put sudocreme on it when he goes out. im soo happy that it isnt strangles. i started my training this week, im really enjoying it. i got the day off tomorow and i got payed today and i spent it all in town lol! i love moneyyyyy! ha ha ha anyway gotta go hoys is on speak soon hannah xx
