first hello agen aint posted on here in a while!!
as sum of u no my tb minty hasnt bn to well ova th past 16 months as things start to look up they get much worse =[
it all started wiv a lil crack in his hoof (bein a tb i spose he was prone to bad hooves) i used cornurcresin n loadsa things th farrier suggested but nuttin worked! this crack jus got bigger n one day he came in lame with an infection in his hoof. we had th vet out who started anti biotics afta this didnt work she dug out th hoof and drained it. we thort th infection had cleared up so his hoof was screwed together wiv a kinda brace thing and then he had an artificial horn put where his horn origanaly was. we thort everythin was ok but th infection keeps cumin bac splittin th growth bac to th coronet band. he has had a bar shoe on 4 about a year to try keep th hoof steady and growing healthy but agen and agen it cums bac with avengance. th vet can no longer fill th hoof completely as there is jus to much infection to take it all out and 4 him to still b able to stand. she has sed she cant do nething else 4 him and has suggested hamainly putting him to sleep.
i dnt wanna giv up yet guys i wanna giv him another chance but i honestly dont no wat else to do!! so i was wonderin if sumone could help me!! maybe u no of sum alternative treatment or a hoof specialist?? im reaaly pluckin at straws here guys im not ready to lose my baby yet!!
if u no nethin... nethin at all plz reply
thanx hannah xxx

hey han awww poor minty i remember you saying about his infection now... have you got him on any hoof supplements? think you said that you had him on biotin at one point? formula 4 feet is meant to be a good supplement...it is designed for lami as well, but it is meant to be good for all hoof problems i think? they have a case study of a horse with cracked feet on their website... www.equilife.co.uk/casestudiesf4f13.htm, and one that had an infection... www.equilife.co.uk/casestudiesf4f3.htm...oh and this was the supplement... www.equilife.co.uk/formula4feet.htm dont know if it would be worth a try? anyhows, i dont seem to have any sensible suggestions...big hugs for you and minty talk soon hannah xxx

no amount of suppliments will help the infection, once the infection is deep in the hoof and affects the pedal or the other little bones in there you are as you know in trouble. surgery is often not sucsesfull, is you vet an equine vet? they do not recomend putting horses to sleep for no reason, it may be that there is not alot else to be done , also the horses welfare is the biggest concern if he is in constant pain. get a second opinion if you are not sure, you may not want to give up on him, but are you being fair. good luck

welsh cob stud, i completely understand the condition my horse has, with th constant effort of myself, my partner and family weve been able to keep any infection away from his pedal bone. yes indeed th cartalidge was infected before christmas tho it has cleared up now th surrounding area is still thrushy and infected. i also understand tht formula 4 feet is not goin to clear up infection but rosiehannahs point was a very good one indeed as we are tryin to encourage horn growth so th infection, once fully clear, will stay clear. ive made sure tht my horse is not in pain, i luv him to peices more thn most u will realise, well apart from gypsy rogue who used to chat on here, he got me thru a very bad time in my life and i onli ever want th best for him!!!! he is seein 2 specialists this week, one from the university in bristol and one from edinborough, so yeah i care for him alot seems as i have spent ova 5 grand makin sure he is pain free and as happy as he possibly can be!! im sorry for my rant but im not havin ANYONE questionin if im bein fair on my horse!!! so in future if u wanna make stupid remarks like tht thn dont bother!!!!

th vet can no longer fill th hoof completely as there is jus to much infection to take it all out and 4 him to still b able to stand. she has sed she cant do nething else 4 him and has suggested hamainly putting him to sleep. thanx hannah xxx your original post quoted above clearly states that there is so much infection that it can't be cut out, but now (in your last post) it is just a bit of infection and thrush, why on earth, if that is the case, would your vet suggest putting him to sleep, if he is so much better than he was at christmas. why also ask advice if you don't want to hear it. your post also contains alot of text speak, i assumed from the way it was written that you were about 16 and youg people tend to understad less that the relief of suffering is far more important than saving lives at all cost. non of my remarks were stupid, nor did they imply that you didn't care for him, it is different looking at a situation from the out side. you post , to me said that your horse has been lame for 16 months and now there is so much infection that the vet suggested putting him to sleep. in have read it again incase i made a mistake, but no, that is what it says. if you don't want peoples stupid remarks don't ask for them

listen u dont no nething about me or my horse!! yes i am 17 dus tht make me a bad horse owner or summin?? im not goin to apologize to u tho i realise i prob should 4 bein so short wiv u!! im jus hurting so bad at the moment, weve lost to foals on our yard already this spring and with th added pressure of minty its breakin my heart!! one minute things are lookin up the hoof is lookin and smelling betta n he seems to be returning to his normal loving self and th next th infection is real bad and he biting and kicking me!! im also bein faced with eviction from my flat next week so yeh things r pritty nuts write now like!! i should be out at th gallops or galloping thru open fields with th hunt but i no thts neva gunna happen agen. the vet wants to put him to sleep as hes not coping with box rest and th injury, although it is not causing him ne pain, its affecting him mentaly. so ok im sori for bein a pregnant dog but i jus wanted to hear advise and tht my horse will get betta and thn u came along bein blunt and sayin tht putting him to sleep would be th best option so i jus snaped, sori.

no need to appologise, no i don't know who you are or your horse. BUT i have nursed a sick horse and struggled to keep something alive that the vet wanted to put to sleep, i now realise it was one of the most selfish things i have done. the horse was in pain, unlikly to improve but i kept him alive because I didn't want him to die, I would have been upset. but it wasn't about me, it didn't matter what i wanted, as his owner ( and breeder)i was responsible for his well being and had to do what was best for him. i had him put down, it was horrible very upsetting, but now my only regret was i didn't do it sooner, i had the option to stop his suffering sooner and i didn't take that option, just because i didn't want him to die. my post was blunt and not what you wanted to hear but, its not about you its about your horse. if its infected he is in pain, don't kid your self. permanent box rest and an injury that is not healing, must be a nightmare.\BUT you have sort your vets advice for the past few months, why dismiss there advice now? just because it is not what you wanted to hear i wish you well, whatever you do

hi i havnt been on site for ages and i read your concerns over the vets advise and your reaction to answers etc, I to dont know you and wish you no harm but having gone through the horrible process of having our old mare put to sleep i know how you feel. The only good advise yhat i personly can give is that you dont take your frustration out on others, my children to have been through a lot my husbands lukiamia has cum back he had op and is bad, then we lost old girl then the day we picked her ashes up our car woz broken into and i to may be having our house repossed but i keep smiling and being polite to everyone as the kind people on these sites have helped me and my family. take care and keep smiling even though ur scared it will all cum right in the end.

Poor Minty and poor you. I hope he'll get better, but if he doesn't, I am sure - how hard it will be for yourself - that you'll make the right decission for him. I know what you're going through. I had to make the same decission when my first pony (who I had from when I was 12 till I was 19) got very ill. I stayed with her till the end and even though it hurted me what I was doing, I could see in her eyes that I made the right decission.
Anyway I hope the vet has given you some good news in the meantime.
