Breeding for type or colour ?

I really cannot make up my mind on which stallion, I will use for my mare this year.

Should I go for type (and end up with a bay again) or give in a little on type and have the buckskin (that I want so badly) ?

The bay stallion, that I would use, has Gwenllan and Geler blood.
The perlino stallion has Trevallion and Llanarth blood.
My mare is mostly Geler blood.

id say go for the perlino, but then im biased as my boy has some llanarth and trevallion blood, then again we used to have a geler cob at my yard and he was gorgeous...but buckskin welshies are nice...

think id say perlino, but i dont know much ;D

id say perlino too, cos when you give a little on type you cud still end up with a beauty. that has really lovely colouring.

Hello.In my opinion,which is uneducated and not worth much,I personally would say you're not giving a little on type.I love Trevallion/Llanarth cobs and if I where looking to purchase one, those are the bloodlines I'd want. so I'd go with the perlino ;D as you'd have a cracking gorgeous cob in a stunning colour

i'd love to be able to say my cob had trevallion/llanarth bloodlines, and if it gets the colour you want as well, it can only be for the better, i agree with september with a stallion with those bloodlines surely you cannot be giving up on type

Btw, when I said that I would be giving in on type using trevallion/llanarth bloodlines, I didn't mean - in any way - to say/suggest that they are minor to Geler. I should probably have said... give in on the type 'they prefer in Belgium'...

Anyway... I think, I've made the right decission. I won't tell you yet, what I have decided, because it is not 100 % sure yet... but you will be surprised

lol everyone has a preference on breeding, i only like my lines cause they are what my boy was, give me another cob of completely different breeding and id like them just the same. my boy looks completely different to a lot of the welshys i show against, hes a chunky monkey compared to them ;D they seem to like to breed them finer round me

Well said Hannah... and that's probably why they like Geler-bloodlines so much in Belgium, because most of the cobs overhere have Geler-blood in them.
Anyway... I think a breeder should breed the type of ponies, (s)he likes, 'cause in the end it's (s)he who'll have to look at them

lol everyone has a type people have asked if my boy is a fell or dales before ;D guess they have different bloodline preferences im easy to please me, give me nice cob and ill sell their bloodlines at the drop of a hat...

well im not to good on bloodlines bt wateva u decide the foal will b lush coz its mummys gawjus ;D
