:-/Hi, looking for some advice please! I mentioned before about Maisie being a fidget when mounting, but she is getting worse. Everytime I put her reins over her head she gets really nervous, she starts fidgeting, walks forward and then when I am half way on she spins around, regardless of if anyone is holding her. The thing is is that it is making me nervous now as she has thrown me off a couple of times when mounting, and I have had a couple of nasty falls in the past that have taken me ages to get over. I hate to admit it but I found myself getting sooo nervous today I completely chickened out. I know I will go and try again tomorrow but it is soo frustrating because when I get on her we always have lovely rides. I just dont know what to do....I was considering the fact that she maybe remembering bad mounting experiences herself from other people and getting upset, bt her saddle fits, her back is ok, her teeth are good and I ride her bitless anyway, so she really has no reason apart from mentally to behave in this way. I really miss just hopping on for a easy nerve free ride! Anything would be appreciated xxxxxxxxx

sorry to hear that lotte. this might defeat the object but could you lunge her before you ride her so that any excess energy is used up on that so that when you get on you know she has already used some of her energy. also, when you get on could you get someone to hold her so that you can concentrate on getting on? if they occupy her with some mints it might distract her attention from you getting on. and i know its hard but its all patience. hope this helps hannah xxx

I have had alot of problems with Lady , one of which is mounting. Before getting on her she would shake violently, eyes popping out her head, then buck most of the time if not she would not stand still and fidget ,so I know how you feel. I used to walk her around the paddock first, I think this helped calm me to, then got my mum to hold her but she couldn't hold her tight as this would make her panic and buck too.Now I can get on her but she still will not stand still at the mo so I circle her until my mum is ready. She has started waiting at junctions thankfully so it is working. I've never put this down to bad experiences as I just don't know Lady's past ,I have a feeling with her that it's just her temperament but what ever the reason you've just got to work out whats best for you and Maisie

thank you guys, i think it mite be a bit of temperament and past memories. My boyf is gonna come and hold her for me tomo and i will give him some mints to distract her aswell. I couldnt use the ramp cos it was blocked so I used the little roundabout out on their drive and she went barmy again. Its interesting tho, cos another lady said that her horse is really bad at the mo mounting there as well.
unfortunately i cant lunge her but we should have a new menage by the summer so that will be good. Thanks again guys and wish me luck. Will post tomo night with the results!

good to see you having a nice ride out, my boy used to spin around when you got on him it, but his was because of a bad saddle and i know only too well it really does ruin your confidence, keep your chin up and just carry on trying, it seems you have already come through the worse
