Hiya all, 'fraid I'm really a Connemara person and despite being Welsh has no real knowledge on whats hot and whats not in welsh pony/cobs. I'm looking for a new companion/project pony and going to see one tomorrow - he's an unregistered section C gelding, with the prefix Caeglas - can anyone tell me if this is a known stud etc? Is he likely to be decently bred, and would is it possible to register a gelding at a later stage? As they are not breeding material? Answers are for my own curiosity - will buy or not, the pony based on his suitability and cuteness! But it would be nice to be able to show him in M&M classes, for which he'd have to be registered I'd assume (other than local level). Many thanks for your time people! Niki x

hey, welcome to the site ;D not sure about whether it is a known stud - you could try contacting the wpcs and see if they can tell you anything/give you any information on the stud. on their website there is something about late registration.... 7. LATE APPLICATIONS
7.1 Late application for the registration of a colt/FILLY may be considered provided the following procedure is followed. The age of an animal being determined as from 1st January, e.g.
Colt/Filly foal born 2004, not registered before 31st December, 2004, eligible thereafter as follows:
2005 (Yearling) Application for registration must be submitted before 31st December, 2005. (Parentage Testing at this stage is mandatory).
2006 (Two year old) Application for registration must be submitted before 31st December, 2006. Late application at a higher rate of penalty fee (than yearling). (Parentage Testing at this stage is mandatory).
2007 (Three year old) Application for registration must be submitted before 31st December, 2007. Late application at a higher rate of penalty fee (than yearling/2 year old). (Parentage Testing at this stage is mandatory).
2008 (Four year old or over) Application for registration must submitted before 31st December, 2008. Late application at a higher rate of penalty fee (than yearling, 2 or 3 year old). (Parentage Testing at this stage is mandatory).
7.2 Late application for the registration or entry of a FOUNDATION STOCK FILLY provided notification of birth, (F.S.2) has been given at the correct time will be considered bearing in mind that penalty fees would not come into operation until the animal attains the age of 2 years (F.S.2 fillies accepted as yearlings after inspection).
[NOTE: Application forms submitted within the appropriate time have a “shelf life” of four years. Failure to complete registration within that period of time will result in the appropriate penalty fees being introduced.] there is more on this... www.wpcs.uk.com/ponies/registration.htmlhope this helps, hannah ;D xxx

Hi Hannah,
Many thanks for your answer! I rang the WPCS and they were great - if we can find his sire and dam he can be registered (section E) so that is good news, the Caeglas is stud!
Went to see him today - nice pony, rather poor with terrible rain scald - but a nice pony iin there somewhere - he is sorrel as well which is a real heart-puller for me! Fingers crossed now that we get him - waiting for owner to call in a bit.
Cheers

That's ok - its exciting to have a new pony - been nearly 8 years since I last had a new pony - and he was a 6mth old foal!!! I'm not 100% on his mum - something like Lidgetts Crackers when I have the passport I'll know more - hopefully I'll be able to get in touch with his breeder and find out a bit more on him. He's very sweet and shy but has been well looked after other than the rainscald - I just think that the other horses in the field there bully him a bit - he'll be on his own for a couple of weeks at my place while he gets wormed and checked over - then he can join my 2 boys. My old pony is 35 and I don't want him getting bugs!! Collecting him tomorrow morning! Niki x edit to add - he's 13.2ish and 5 years old! I'm told he's a section C but that might change as the only mare registered that seems to be his mum's name is a section c - isn;t a cross between a A and C = a B??

Stefan - thanks for that info!! Rather confused before!! I spoke to the WPCS today and he can be registered as long as his breeder verifies the breeding so that is hopeful! He also needs to have a gelding cert. He had his feet looked at yesterday - nothing needed doing at this point - as he is so shy and new it is better to wait for a while - we'll get him doing some roadwork in hand to tighten up the white line - but he's not even footy on gravel so that's pretty good for being out in a wet field for god knows how long! He's a bit tricky to catch and has obviously been kept in a headcollar as his has ruffles on his face/poll. But he's starting to trust us already. I will certainally post more pics as he comes good!! Worm sample went off today so... Niki x
