hello, i was wondering whether anyone could give me advice, show tips and what classes to enter next year, with my foal, a black welsh section d filly and my black wlesh section d mare who is 13 yrs old this year. And how to enter the welsh county shows etc. To try and get them both qualified for other shows? As i would like to give it a go, as it will be my first time showing a foal and doing in hand properly with my mare too, Any advice will be very grateful thank you Elsa13

Hi
With regards to showing your filly, you can either enter just local shows to see how she handles things and see how you go from there.
If you have a look on the Welsh pony and cob soceity it should give you a list of branches in your area and shows they hold. Horse and Hound is another good one for the shows. I tend to keep last years schedules ready for the new season just to see what classes were being held.
Hope this is of some help to you!!

Join your local Welsh Pony and Cob Association you will be able to go to their shows to get you going and they are specific to the breed so you won't be competing against other breeds of Mountain and Moorlands. First of all go and watch a show with classes that are suitable for your cobs and then watch what goes on and then have a go yourself... I find the cob people very helpful so don't be afraid to ask anyone. Good luck

Hi All, I'm new to the Welsh Cobs arena, having been in Riding Ponies until now.....can anyone tell me the correct turnout for a Cob C & D with regards to hair removal, tail length etc? I'm in Australia - there seems to be alot of different options - some have tails cut blunt to hocks, others have natural, some have their leg hair in place, others not - I don't want to touch anything till I know what's correct. Any info wold be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i never trim my cob some people trim slightly but the WPCS has a list of guideleines on their website.
registered cobs can have a single plait behind the ear to signify this.
youngsters & mares usualy wear a white halter & stallions MUST be bitted, my gelding can get strong so depending on the number of mares in a class (he is 9 1/2 and was only cut 3 yeras ago) he will wear either a snaffle or a double bridle to keep him under control as he can get flirty
i wear a brown tweed hacking jacket with a shirt, tie & beige trousers in the ring but most Welsh handlerswear a waistcoat.
